Charlie Cope isn’t a left brain/right brain kind of guy. The idea that one side of your brain is dominant — the left if you’re analytical and methodical, the right if you’re more creative or artistic – may be true for some. But from a young age, Charlie was interested in design and architecture – and math and physics.

Sometimes creativity takes center stage in his work, other times the numbers dominate. And Charlie is comfortable and skilled in both arenas.

It’s the best of both worlds for him, and he maximizes his own versatility in each project he tackles. Charlie converts the plans of Somerville’s engineers into a format for clients. His construction documents guide contractors and their work.

Charlie pursued mechanical engineering– a degree not tailored specifically to the architectural field but broad enough to offer layers of learning – because its scope allowed him to explore. He learned to appreciate the integration of design with architecture, and by graduation, he knew this field was his calling.

As a Green Bay resident, he’s centrally located between his hometown of Madison and a cabin up north that serves as a second home for his outdoors fun. This community offers a quieter change of pace than his hometown, just like Somerville’s more intimate work environment offers unique opportunities – including the ability to experiment with new software for improved performance and efficiency. The forward-thinking nature of the Somerville approach means as technology changes, the teams can learn and evolve with it and improve their efforts for clients.
